Delhi Transport Stack

Background

Data-driven innovation is at the heart of transforming urban mobility, enhancing efficiency, and improving citizen experience. The Transport Department has been actively deploying digital technologies to streamline operations and provide smarter transport solutions, including EV chatbots and automated challan detection. One of the key initiatives in this journey has been the Delhi Transport Stack, developed in collaboration with JICA. This initiative aims to build a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that ensures secure data access while fostering innovation across mobility services for citizens, transport operators, government, and businesses.

Key Initiatives & Impact

  1. Web Portal: The Transport Stack Web Portal has been launched, bringing diverse data from metro, buses, rapid rail, and parking onto a single platform. With 6000+ active users, including startups and academia, the portal is enabling innovation and cutting-edge research in mobility.

  2. One Delhi: To enhance citizen experience, the multimodal journey planner, Park & Ride, and ETA calculator were launched on the OneDelhi app. These features have led to 80,000 daily active users. A citizen survey revealed that 80% of users save 20–30 minutes daily by leveraging these features.

  3. ONDC Bus Seller: Further advancing digital ticketing, Delhi introduced India’s first BeckN-powered city bus seller service, at the intersection of ONDC and the Transport Stack. This initiative has enhanced transparency in ticketing, with four buyer apps (OneDelhi, Chartr, Tummoc, and WhatsApp) now offering seamless ticketing experiences to boost digital adoption.

  4. Business Operations Analytics Dashboard: The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) are also undergoing a major digital transformation. A Bus Operations Analytics Dashboard has been developed to monitor key performance indicators for buses such as:

    • Out-shedding efficiency
    • Schedule adherence
    • Capacity utilization
    • Bunching

ensuring improved operational planning and service delivery.

Activating Innovation Ecosystem

To further accelerate innovation, the Transport Stack Open Innovation Challenge was launched with participation from 300+ teams. Five startups were selected as winners and are now initiating Proof of Concepts (PoCs) in Delhi’s mobility ecosystem. These include:

  • AI-powered challan issuance
  • Bus scheduling analytics
  • Driver wellness monitoring
  • A multilingual chatbot
  • Metro safety enhancements through video analytics
